Human Services Program - Online Handbook - Helpful Hints for Human Services Students
Always keep track of your completed courses on the curriculum checklist provided in this handbook. Then each semester when you register, you will know what exactly what classes you need.
Classes listed under electives and the other areas of concentration in the Human Services Brochure will count as electives for the program.
You need 15 semester hours in one area of concentration. It might be easiest to choose that area and get those classes out of the way instead of taking all of your electives first. You have many electives to choose from to try and fit into your schedule.
You must have a minimum of 64 hours to graduate. That includes the required courses, field experiences, 15 hours in your area of concentration, and 13 hours of electives.
To do your first Field Experience, you need to have completed 30 hours in the Human Service Program, passed Intro to Social Work and Social Welfare, and have at least a 2.0 GPA.
You must complete two Field Experiences and have the option of doing a third. Each one consists of 150 hours at one site. Contact the Program Coordinator or Internship Supervisor by the middle of the semester before the semester you plan on doing an internship. We can assist you in choosing a site if you are not sure about where you want to go.
