Coach Jarrett will begin his 31st and last season of coaching baseball and his seventh as head coach at Lake Land College. In 2003, the Lakers finished second in the Region 24 Tournament. During the Spring of 2004, Jim guided the Lakers to the CCCI conference championship and was voted CCCI Coach of the Year. Jim was also the Region 24 Coach of the Year. Jim’s overall coaching record is now 815-556-13.
Prior to coming to Lake Land Coach Jarrett was the Head Baseball Coach at Effingham St. Anthony High School from 1996 to 2002. In 1998, Jim was voted National Trail Coach of the Year. Jim was an assistant Baseball Coach at Lake Land from 1989 to 1994. He also was the Head Baseball Coach at Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School from 1987 to 1992, during which time he guided the team to the final eight in state tournament competition in 1991.
Jim has been active in summer ball in Effingham since 1981. He was co-founder of the Effingham Babe Ruth Association and helped restart American Legion Baseball in Effingham. Coach Jarrett won numerous district titles, was state runner-up four times, and was Ohio Valley Regional runner-up twice.
Several of Jim’s former players have or are playing professional baseball. They are: Brian Shouse, Mark Little, Cary Fenton, Derek Braunecker, Tony Bryant, Kurt Endenbrock, Mitch Walk, Ryan Cox, John Turlais, and Jordan Pals. One of his former players is the head trainer in the Minnesota Twins organization, Dave Pruemer.
Coach Jarrett lives in Effingham with his wife Robin. They have two grown children, Jamie and Karie. Jamie lives in St. Louis and works for the Missouri Valley Conference. Karie lives in Barnesville, Ga. with her husband, Adam.
Coach Jarrett is a history instructor at Lake Land College. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Illinois State University and a juris doctorate from Chicago Kent College of Law.
