Posted on April 18, 2013
Students from South Central High School, St. Elmo High School, and Mattoon High School, who participate in Lake Land College’s Destination College program, recently attended a campus visit to Greenville College on April 4 and 5.
The nine junior and senior attendees stayed overnight in a dorm room with a Greenville College Student Ambassadors in order to experience what it is like to attend college. Evening activities included playing glow in the dark Frisbee on the campus quad, watching movies with their hosts, and learning about what it is like to be a college student.
The following day, Destination College participants ate breakfast and lunch in the school’s dining area, attended chapel service, and toured the campus. After the campus visit, students visited the DeMoulin Museum located in Greenville. They learned about the DeMoulin Company’s history and were able to investigate and learn about many of the museums artifacts.
Destination College assists individuals in 17 targeted middle and high schools within the Lake Land College district who have potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides support as well as educational and cultural opportunities to assist students in overcoming barriers to enroll and complete a college program.
