Lake Land College’s success rate nationally recognized
June 30, 2014
The national online publication CNN Money recently recognized Lake Land College among the nation’s best 100 community colleges in preparing students for graduation.
Lake Land College’s 54 percent success rate is also in the top 25 in the state, tied for seventh. The study, conducted by a joint venture between CNN Money and College Measures, is based on the success rate of graduating students within three years or students transferring to a four-year university.
“Being recognized at a national level for our student’s success is a wonderful testimony to the excellent learning environment our faculty and staff create. Because of their commitment to excellence, Lake Land students are achieving successes at some of the highest rates in the nation,” President Josh Bullock said.
Lake Land College offers 140 academic programs with nearly 1,300 students graduating with associate degrees and certificates each year. The quality of a Lake Land education is evident in the success rate of students who transfer as well as those immediately entering the workforce.
According to the annual Transfer Follow-Up Report, the GPA of students who transfer from Lake Land College is better than students who begin their education at that university. Workforce ready graduates do as good as or better on professional licensing exams when compared to their peers in the state and nation.
Small class sizes, hands-on experiences and support services help students achieve their goals. Lake Land is one of the few colleges in the state and nation that requires students to meet one-on-one each semester with an academic advisor to make sure they are on track for meeting their goals.
