Location for permanent campus announced (October 10, 1967): The LLC Board chose to place Lake Land’s campus three miles south of Mattoon after considering a total of eleven locations. It was approved by the Illinois Junior College Board three days after the announcement. Formerly known as the Trogdon Heirs Site, the Board agreed to pay three different land owners a total of $195,000 for the 166.5 acres of land. (With the assistance of local community leaders—like Joseph W. Schilling—interested in securing enough land for the school’s future growth, 40 additional acres were secured in December of that same year.)
