Kluthe Center grand opening (August 17, 1995): Less than two years after its ground-breaking, the Kluthe Center for Higher Education and Technology, named after the late Minnie Kluthe, whose estate donated $250,000 to the school, the opened to an excited Effingham community. The Center’s modern appeal, both inside and out, complimented the nearby Consolidated Communications building, and reflected a desire by local business leaders to create an industry park that would not only attract new jobs, but also encourage college-bound students in the community to remain in the area. An estimated 1,000 students were expected to take classes at the new extension center, including a Physical Therapist program that was already growing in popularity.
