Center for Business and Industry established (January 14, 1980): At a regularly-scheduled Board of Trustees meeting, the “prospectus for the creation of the Center for Business and Industry” was presented, according to Dr. Webb, LLC’s 2nd President. The origin of the Center came from Dr. Webb and the other members of the Executive Committee, and its creation was formally adopted by the Board later that year (July 14). Although the College agreed to fund the Center initially during its developmental stages, efforts to secure at least $40,000 in start up funds were pursued successfully based on the contributions by local businesses, like Blaw-Knox, Crest Container Corporation, General Electric, Kal-Kan, and R.R. Donnelley and Sons. Later, the Board approved the creation of a Board of Consultants for the Center—made up of local industry representatives—to forward the mission of the Center, which was to support, attract, and keep businesses in the LLC district.
