Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is required to determine students’ eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including grants, student loans, work study, and many scholarships.

File the FAFSA

The FAFSA for the 2023-2024 academic year is available starting October 1, 2022 and can be completed at studentaid.gov using your 2021 tax information. Be sure to include Lake Land College’s school code, 007644, on your application.

The earlier you apply, the better. By getting a head start on the application process, you will be eligible for priority funding and make better decisions on how to plan for your education.

Confirm Your Information

Once you submit your FAFSA, the federal government will process it and send you a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) within 2-3 weeks via email. Please review your SAR to make sure the information reported on the FAFSA is correct.

Review Your Status & Awards

Lake Land College will receive your FAFSA information electronically. If we need additional information, we will send you a request for information. You can also check on the status of your FAFSA anytime in the Laker Hub by selecting “Financial Aid Checklist” from the Financial Aid menu. Once the review is complete, we will send you a letter indicating the programs and award amounts for which you qualify.

What Happens Next

Once you receive your award notice, you can determine if you need additional funding to cover your cost of attendance. If you need additional funding, you can look into scholarship and student loan options. Lake Land College also offers the Nelnet payment plan.

Once you are registered for classes, you can view your bill on your Laker Hub under “Financial Information.” On your account, you will see a list of your charges, financial aid, and payments. If your charges exceed your financial aid, you will have a balance that will need to be paid. If your financial aid exceed your charges, you will receive a refund check or deposit.

Additional Assistance

Financial aid events are available for students, potential students and parents to help you complete the FAFSA. The Financial Aid Office is also here to assist you if you have difficulties throughout the FAFSA process.
