Financial Aid Eligibility
To be eligible for Title IV financial
aid programs at Lake Land College a student must:
1. Be accepted and enrolled in a Title
IV eligible degree or
certificate program at Lake Land College. Certificate programs
of less than 16 credit hours are not eligible;
2. Be in attendance at Lake Land College
for the purpose of
obtaining an associate degree or eligible certificate;
3. File a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
A FAFSA form may be secured from your local high school guidance
counselor or the College Financial Aid Office;
4. Complete a Lake Land College Financial
Aid Information Form, available from your high school counselor
or the College Financial Aid Office;
5. If requested, forward to the Financial
Aid Office signed copies of your and if dependent, your parents'
federal and state income tax forms;
6. If you are filing as a dependent student,
complete the financial aid application forms with your parents.
Both the student and the parents are expected to understand
the forms and accept responsibility for the information reported
on them;
7. File a Statement of Educational Purpose
and Selective Service Registration Status. This is part of
the Federal Pell
Grant awarding process;
8. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
as established for financial aid applicants/recipients, and;
9. Demonstrate financial need.
To determine the financial need factor, a Lake Land applicant
completes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Financial need is considered to be the difference between
one academic year's educational expenses (tuition, books,
fees, room and board, personal and transportation expenses)
and the student's resources (expected family contribution
for the same period). All students and their families are
encouraged to apply early for financial aid and with accuracy.
Note: Financial Aid for Part-Time
Students
Financial aid is available for part-time
students attending Lake Land College. This could be especially
beneficial to returning adult students who often enroll in
classes one or two evenings a week. Unmarried heads of household
with low income are encouraged to apply. However, due to limited
federal funding, the awarding of Title IV "campus-based"
financial aid is prioritized along the following enrollment
categories: First priority, full-time and part-time students;
Second priority, less than half-time students.
Note: Selective
Service Registration Status
Under Title IV of the Higher Education
Act of 1965 as amended, any person required to register with
Selective Service who fails to do so is ineligible for federal
financial aid. This requirement is also in effect for state
subsidized financial aid programs such as the Illinois Monetary
Award Program (MAP) and the Illinois Incentive for Access
(IIA) Program.
Those persons not required to register
with Selective Service must, nevertheless, state why they
do not have to be registered. These persons include females,
persons born before 1960, armed services personnel on active
duty, persons under age 18, and certain other persons as designated
by the U.S. Government.
