Program Curriculum
The Art and Science of Nursing: Holistic Theory as Foundation for Practice
The scientific foundation of theory provides participants with the contextual and relational framework needed to incorporate complementary therapies in daily practice.
Philosophy and Spirituality of Healing
The spiritual expression of health is recognized through a study of human consciousness, healing archetypes, and the sacred dimension of healing relationships.
Transformational Leadership for Organizational Change
Participants explore their inner landscape and develop the skill sets and behaviors of a personal-ized relationship-centered leadership style.
Artistry of Authentic Communication
Participants explore the paradigm shift presented within the holistic caring process.
Nurturing the Nurse: Self-Care and Renewal
Participants look at their own health issues, expanding the definition of health to encompass nutrition, rest, play, relationships, career and spiritual/introspective practice.
Nutrition as Nourishment for Mind/Body/Spirit
An in-depth exploration of nutrition includes attention on whole foods, the immune system, nutritional supplementation, and the therapeutic and preventive aspects of nutrition.
Energy Systems: Understanding the Flow of Life
The theoretical concepts of energy medicine (chi, prana, ayurveda, meridians) are presented as a foundation for the incorporation of many integrative and modalities (meditation, yoga, acupuncture, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki) in medical and nursing practice.
Integrative Therapies for Patient Care
Participants study theory, research, and clinical applications for Aromatherapy, Medical Music Therapy, Guided Imagery and Bio-energetic Touch therapies that enhance patient comfort, provide pain relief, promote sleep, alleviate anxiety and encourage well-being.
Program Format
This four part program leads to a Certificate in Holistic Nursing and Integrative Modalities.
Each session builds upon the information pre-sented in the previous session. The curriculum uses seven core content areas and 4 complemen-tary modalities to take the participant from introductory to advanced concepts. The sessions must be taken in order to obtain a certificate. An important aspect of the program is the focus on caring for the needs of healthcare professionals. The setting is chosen to promote a relaxed learning environment and provide opportunities to rest, renew and rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit.

Holistic Practice and the Nurse Healer
Introductory core content, with a focus on caring
for the caregiver and development of a healing
presence with others.

Integrative Modalities and Caring-Healing Best Practices
Intermediate content includes holistic philosophy and theory, scientific basis for the mind body spirit connection and a module of clinicalarromatherapy.

Session 3: June 5-9, 2005
Manifesting the Healing Environment
Advanced concepts include the art and science of creating a healing environment, incorporating the clinical application of medical music therapy and guided imagery.

Session 4: September 18-22, 2005
Enlightened Healthcare
Participants focus on their roles as leaders and cultural change agents with the intention of facilitating healthcare transformation. Participants study energy/touch therapies.

Certification Examination and National Board Certification in Holistic Nursing
Certification Examination
and National Board Certification in Holistic Nursing
Board Certification in Holistic Nursing (HNC) is offered through the American Holistic Nurses’ Certification
Corporation (AHNCC) and approved by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC). The certification examination will be available on site to eligible candidates at completion of the program.
Contact Hours - 123 Contact Hours are offered through the American Holistic Nurses’ Association
www.ahna.org and are approved by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC). At the conclusion of the IHAP, participants will be presented with a Certificate of Completion from The BirchTree Center for Healthcare Transformation.
