Laboratory Supervisor

Position Title: Laboratory Supervisor
Department: Math & Science General
Supervisor: Division Chair Math & Science

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks):

Job Summary: The lab supervisors main responsibility is to insure that lab experiments for biology and chemistry lab courses are prepared and ready for student use.This will entail preparation of solutions,equipment and apparatus;ordering of supplies,waste disposal, clean up of labs and record keeping.
  • Prepare and set up all lab experiments for biology and chemistry lab courses.
  • Tear down labs after completion of lab experiments.
  • Maintain clean and safe lab and prep areas.
  • Maintain SDS files for biology & chemistry.
  • Dispose of all hazardous waste generated in a safe and legal manner.
  • Prepare special apparatus as required for labs.
  • Maintain all equipment that are used for labs.
  • Keep an inventory record of chemicals and apparatus.
  • Order needed supplies to maintain inventory.
  • Maintain animals for biology.
  • Maintain deionized water systems.
  • Act as a liaison with maintenance to insure the facilities are kept up to date and functioning.
  • Supervise student workers.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education: Level I: A Minimum of an AS degree in science related field from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to candidates with lab experience. See part-time rates and stipends sheet. Level II: A Minimum of a BS degree in BS in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to candidates with lab experience. See part-time rates and stipends sheet.
Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with work experience in the field.
Knowledge: Solution preparation and experiment set-up.
Skills Familiarity with equipment and software used in teaching biology and chemistry.
Personal: Versatility,positive attitude,enthusiasm.
Physical: Ability to perform general responsibilities in the laboratory.
Machines and equipment used: Personal computer,spectrometers,chromatographs,balances,microscopes,autoclaves.
