Associate Degree in Nursing (AAS.ADN)
Associate in Applied Science Degree
The Associate Degree in Nursing program is an intensive two-year academic program which includes classroom, skills laboratory and clinical experience in various healthcare agencies. The student is awarded an associate in applied science degree upon completion of the program and may apply to write the National Council Licensure Examination for registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, the graduate may apply for Illinois RN licensure. Completion of the ADN program does not guarantee RN licensure. There are some conditions for which the Department of Professional Regulation may refuse to issue a license. Please consult with the Director of ADN program to avoid license application hindrances. The program is approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission [(NLNAC) 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, NY 10006, 212-363-5555 Fax: 212-812-0390
ADN brochures, admission requirements/information sheets, program competencies/handbook and intent forms are available through Counseling Services and/or the Allied Health division.
Note: State regulations require that qualified in-district residents must be accepted first before any consideration can be given to out-of-district applicants.
Applicants seeking admission into the ADN Program for the Fall semester must have a completed nursing department application file in the nursing department by February 1 or the preceding business day if February 1 falls on a weekend. Within six weeks of deadline the Nursing Admissions Committee will inform students in writing on the status of their candidacy.
The following admission criteria and procedures are in accordance with Illinois law: In those years when there are more qualified applicants than spaces available in the program, admission is competitive and selective by use of an objective formula approved by the Nursing Department. This formula includes the date on intent form filed in nursing office; academic achievement in pre-requisite and co-requisite courses; and pre-RN assessment composite raw score (a composite below 90 is not acceptable; the most recent test score is used). The admission selection form and current program policies are available from the nursing director.
