| The Educational Interpreting Program is offered to help alleviate the critical shortage of American Sign Language (ASL) professionals. This two year associate in science degree places a strong emphasis on understanding the culture of the deaf community. An interpreter is fluent in receptive and expressive sign language. Career opportunities are available in business, legal offices, education, medical facilities, social service agencies and on a freelance-basis. Entry level salaries average $15 per hour for Lake Land College graduates. Interpreters certified with the Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf, Inc., earn up to $32 an hour. The first year of classes emphasizes interpreting in an educational setting. Classes may be taken on a full- or part-time basis. |
