How to Copy and Paste Between Programs

In an online class you may be asked to copy and paste text from one program to another. For example, you may want to type your discussion posts in Word and then paste the text into a new discussion post. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Open Word and type your message. When you are finished, spell check the document and save the document.
  2. To select the text complete the following:
    1. For Word 2003 or lower , go to Edit > Select All.
    2. For Word 2007, display the Home tab and find the Editing Group. Click Select > Select All.

      Tip: Text can also be selected with the keyboard. The shortcut for selecting all text is CTRL + A .

  3. After the text is selected complete the following:
    1. For Word 2003 or lower, go to Edit > Copy. keyboard shortcut: CTRL + C
    2. For Word 2007, display the Home tab and find the Clipboard group. Click Paste. The keyboard shortcut work in Word 2007 as well.
  4. Open a new browser window and login to Blackboard and click on the icon for discussion board.
  5. Click Compose message to create a new message.
  6. In the new message window, use the keyboard shortcut, CTRL + P, to paste the text from the Word document into the new message.
