Meet the Men’s Basketball Coaches

Head Coach: Julian Larry

Julian Larry enters his second year as head coach for the Lakers and his 14th season as a collegiate coach. He previously served 4 years as assistant coach for the Lakers under Coach Brandon Colvin. Coach Larry’s main focus is player development on and off the court, as well as in the classroom and life.

Prior to coming to Lake Land College, Coach Larry spent two years at Dakota College. Also during his time at Dakota College, he was an academic advisor for all students, intramural sports director, and director of retention. He has also served as the top assistant at Catawba Valley Community College, where he was also the program coordinator for a minority males program on the campus. Coach Larry began his coaching career at Dickinson State University where he finished his playing career.

Larry received his B.A. in Exercise Science and University Studies. Coach Larry is originally from Ogden, Utah.

Assistant Coach: Dave Earp

Coach Earp will be entering his 24th season as an assistant coach for the Lakers. He has been on the sidelines assisting the last five Laker head coaches. Earp’s responsibilities include recruiting, academic monitoring, fundraising, scouting, team travel, scheduling, practice and game preparation. Coach Earp is also responsible for running the top junior college player camp in the United States, the Mullen’s Top 100 event that is held annually in Wichita, Kansas.

His recruitment of community college athletes is legendary and second-to-none in community college basketball, with countless numbers of players moving on to play Division I or II basketball after graduating from Lake Land College. His connections with the Lake Land College district and the Indianapolis and Louisville area have made him one of the most successful community college recruiters in the past decade.

Coach Earp is a Mattoon native and continues to live there.


Assistant Coach: Chad Graves

Chad Graves enters his 6th season as an assistant coach for the Lakers. Coach Graves’ focus is post player development as well as assisting with scouting and recruiting. He played for Coach Jim Dudley and the Lakers for two seasons after high school. Coach Graves coached both JV and Varsity high school basketball at his alma mater, Arcola High School, for 12 years where he led the Raiders to two conference tournament championships and appeared in five regional title games, winning two of them.
