Career Services Specialist

Position Title: Career Services Specialist

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks):

Job Summary: Support assessment of employer relations, internship, and employment programming. Support the development of employment tracking activities and systems. Supports creation and implementation of equity-driven resources and systems.
  • Support creation, implementation, coordination and assessment of employer relations programming
  • Support activities and assessment of programming related to student internships and employment, such as Cooperative Work Study Program (CWSP)
  • Evaluate current departmental resources, identify equity opportunities, research best practices, and build equity-centered solutions centered on career development and employment
  • Support, develop, and implement new projects and special initiatives related to student and graduate employment
  • Explain and train students, employers and visitors about Career Services and related programming, such as Career Coach and Handshake.
  • Partner in the development of departmental resources related to Guided Pathways
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of marketing activities
  • Present information on career development resources to community members and students in collaboration with faculty, club advisors and/or coaches
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in related field
Experience: Prefer related community college, business and/or human resource experience.
Knowledge: Equity-centered design, local labor market information, employment trends, career development, job search readiness skills, business etiquette, student development, general office procedures, grant compliance, social media.
Skills Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, teaching, presentation and organizational skills; Microsoft Office; multi-user calendar system.
Personal: Detail-oriented, self-starter who enjoys relating to a diverse population of students, staff and public in a fast-paced work environment with multiple interruptions. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to engage and effectively collaborate with local business and industry. Enthusiastic and committed to students, with strong orientation toward customer service and community college philosophy. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Interest in working with students, staff and business and industry.
Physical: Ability to access computer screens and electronic student records in software packages currently used by the college; ability to input data; ability to lift and transport 20 pounds; ability to verbally present information in a workshop or seminar setting; ability to visually critique materials for layout and content; ability to travel to businesses to meet with employers and/or student interns. Commitment to student success
Machines and equipment used: College mainframe software, PC Client Server environment, Windows 10 platform, Microsoft Office 2013, Outlook, Internet Explorer, presentation equipment/software, facsimile machine, multi-line digital phone system, flatbed scanner and copy machine.
