Student-Athlete Principles Of Conduct
The Athletics Department is committed to providing each student-athlete with the opportunity to
participate in intercollegiate athletics while obtaining a college degree. Student-athletes, as members of
the College's academic and intercollegiate athletic community, are expected and required to observe
certain standards of behavior. The College expects that each student-athlete's conduct will be
appropriate and representative of the College on and off the field of competition. Participation in
intercollegiate athletics is a privilege, not a right, and once you accept the privilege of being a student-athlete,
you also accept the responsibilities set forth in the Student-Athlete Principles of Conduct.
Failure to abide by the Student-Athlete Principles of Conduct will result in loss of privileges and/or other
sanctions as appropriate, including but not limited to: verbal or written reprimand, probation, loss of
practice privileges, loss of competition privileges, and suspension or dismissal from the program.
Reduction, cancellation or non-renewal of athletic grant-in-aid may also be a consequence of a violation
of the Student-Athlete Principles of Conduct. In addition, sanctions may also be imposed for a violation
of team rules, a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, and/ or a violation of other College policies,
rules and/or regulations.
If you participate in intercollegiate athletics at Lake Land College, you agree to:
- Meet all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) eligibility requirements for minimum class load, grade point average, etc. for first year and second year eligibility.
- Meet Lake Land College requirements for the Talented Student Award Athletic Scholarship.
- Adhere to the College's Student Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity Code.
- Follow all policies, rules and procedures established by the College, the Athletic Department and team coach(es).
- Abide by all local, state and federal laws.
- Accept that grant-in-aid awards are competitive in nature. Consequently, not all awards may be the same from one athlete to another.
- Provide sufficient funds when beginning each semester to defray expenses until grant-in-aid or financial aid is awarded. Funds are often delayed due to late filing of financial aid application materials. You must be prepared to provide funds for rent, utilities, food, etc. until such awards are official.
- Provide proof of insurance.
- Participate in fundraising activities deemed necessary by the coach. Such funds may be needed for extra team trips, team keepsakes, grant-in-aid expenses, etc.
- Be certified as physically fit by a medical doctor prior to participation. Cost of the annual physical is to be borne by the student or student's insurance.
- Consent to participate in the Department of Athletics' mandatory drug testing program. A student-athlete will not be allowed to participate on any intercollegiate athletic team unless he/ she fully participates in this drug testing program.
- Refrain from consuming alcohol, using tobacco products or using or possessing illegal substances.
- Travel to and from away-from-home contests with the team unless prior permission for alternative travel is granted by the head coach.
- Student-athletes may be suspended or dismissed from athletic teams for failing to adhere to the College's Code of Student Conduct, the College's Academic Integrity Code, or any of the Principles of Conduct set forth herein.
- Not post or contribute any content to any social networking or other internet site(s) that reflects negatively (determined at the sole discretion of the College) on yourself, your team and/or teammates, your coach(es) or the Department of Athletics.
- Avoid any other behavior or conduct that is inconsistent with the standards of behavior and conduct that student-athletes are expected and required to observe or that otherwise reflects negatively (in the sole discretion of the College) on you, your team and/or teammates, your coach(es), the Department of Athletics or the College.
