College Closing Policy

In the event of inclement weather, mechanical or power failure, or other emergencies, the following procedures will be implemented. Every effort will be made to keep the College open. In many cases, Lake Land College will remain open when elementary and secondary schools are closed.

Closings will be communicated to the college community via area media outlets, announcements on the home page, text alerts/emails to those who have opted in and Facebook. Since these methods are dependent on the cooperation of third parties and technology, we encourage you to check multiple sources if you anticipate the College will be closed. If the College is closed, the closing applies to all off-campus locations including the Kluthe Center for Higher Education and Technology in Effingham, extension centers in Marshall and Pana and other locations hosting LLC classes. If there is a need to specifically close one location, that will be communicated in the closing message.

The decision to close classes that begin at 4:00 p.m. or later will be made early afternoon when possible. When weather conditions prevent the opening of the College or cause a delayed opening of the College, every effort will be made to make announcements on the following radio stations and TV stations by 6:00 a.m. for that day.

To opt-in to receive text alert and/or email messages go to your IRIS account and select Text Messaging/ Email Notification under Communication.
