Action Plan Statement:
Invitational Criminal Justice Program Promotion Expositions - Pilot Initiative
Strategic Project Description:
The Criminal Justice Program is currently represented to high schools, via in person visits, around 20 to 22 times per school year. These visits take the form of everything from tabling events to personal presentations. The efforts are beneficial to Criminal Justice Program promotion, however a targeted initiative designed to personally solicit the program to interested students is missing. This initiative proposes maintaining high school visits while adding Criminal Justice Program exposition events. The initiative is geared towards inviting up to one hundred and twenty-five criminal justice and/or security career minded students to an exposition event at Lake Land College. These exposition events would be offered to up to twenty-five students at a time with up to five potential expositions being held throughout the school year (whichever comes first). Attendees will be introduced to the Criminal Justice Program as a whole, receive information regarding the application of psychology studies in the field, receive demonstrations from the Crime Scene Tech program, as well as receive enrollment information from counseling. Finally, career paths will be highlighted as well as explanation as to how Lake Land College can prepare them for working in those careers. Attendees will receive a tour of the campus facilities. The campus tours will be provided by student members of the Criminal Justice Club. Finally, attendees will be provided a lunch where they can visit with existing students and Lake Land College staff. This project is intended to achieve the following in line with the strategic goals listed above. 1. Increase awareness of career fields available in the Criminology / Criminal Justice Field. 2. Increase awareness of Lake land College CTE and transfer Criminal Justice Program degrees and certificates. 3. Promote Lake Land College and the Criminal Justice Program by means of invitational exposition events. 4. Increase student enrollment in Criminal Justice programs by 50% over three years
Project Expected Impact
The purpose of the Criminal Justice Program Exposition is to create a connection for the potential student between Lake Land College Criminal Justice Degrees /Certificates and viable careers. Additionally, pathways will be highlighted for those wishing to transfer for further education. The expected impact is a rise in students aspiring for credentials that increase employability in the criminal justice field and /or security industry.
