Become an asset to any medical service with the Medical Coding Specialist Certificate. These programs present a comprehensive study of both diagnostic and procedural coding using nationally recognized ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding. The classes you take will prepare you for employment in any medical facility. Once you’ve finished the program, you have the option to sit for coding exams available through national organizations such as the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

In Medical Coding, you will have an opportunity to choose hospital and clinical setting internships or complete the hospital and clinical certificate prep classes. If your internship is set in an office setting, you will receive credit for the one hour internship course. The certificate prep classes provide you with practice tests to help prepare them to sit for the CPC (Certified Professional Coder) credential and the CCA (Certified Coding Associate) credential.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical records specialists is projected to grow 7 percent from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations. (Source: bls.gov)
