Work Study Assignment & Hours

You and your supervisor are responsible for setting up your schedule and keeping track of hours worked. You must also ensure that you do not go over your Work Study award. Generally, students will work before classes, after classes, during a long break between classes, or on days when you do not have class. There are generally no weekend or evening hours.
Once you establish a work schedule with your supervisor, you are expected to stick to it.
You may not work while your classes are scheduled.
Studying or doing homework during scheduled work time is strictly prohibited.

Attendance

As with any job, you are expected to report for work when you are scheduled. You should be present and ready to work at the start of your scheduled shift.
You must notify your supervisor of any planned absences or if a change of schedule is necessary.
If unable to work, you are expected to contact your supervisor before your scheduled work time.
If you do not maintain satisfactory attendance, your work assignment will be terminated.

Professionalism

As an employee of Lake Land College, you must act in a professional manner at all times.
You are expected to treat co-workers and students with respect.
If you will be answering telephone calls, you must use proper telephone etiquette. If you are uncertain about what this means, talk with your supervisor.
Dress attire can be casual, but you must be aware that you are working with the public and dress accordingly. If you are dressed inappropriately, you will not be allowed to work. If you are uncertain about what this means, talk with your supervisor.

Confidentiality

You must preserve confidentiality of the institution as well as student records. A breach of confidentiality is just cause for immediate dismissal.

Phone and Computer Usage

Personal calls and cell phone usage during work hours is prohibited, except in an emergency.
Computer usage is limited to work items only. Unless work-related, internet usage is prohibited.
When on duty, you must be working on assigned tasks.

Breaks

If you work for four or more continuous hours, you are allowed to take a 15-minute break. All break times should be discussed with and approved by your supervisor.

Time Reporting

You will report your hours worked via an online timesheet and submitted electronically to the appropriate supervisor for approval at the end of each earning period. Students are paid every two weeks via check or direct deposit. If you do not submit a timesheet, you cannot be paid.
You must report only your actual time worked. If you are tardy, you must report the time you arrived, not the time you were scheduled. If you leave early, you must report the time you left work, not the time you were scheduled to leave.
