Applying for Aid
Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid at least 8 to 10 weeks before the semester begins. To be eligible for financial aid, every applicant must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each academic year. You can complete the FAFSA online at https://studentaid.gov/.

Steps to completing FAFSA
- Create an FAFSA ID
- This is your official FAFSA username and password to log into the U.S. Department of Education website. It is considered your legal signature to sign FAFSA and Federal Student Loan documents. Every student and parent (for dependent students) should have their own FSA ID and password.
- Gather the necessary documents for student and parent(s) (for dependent students)
- Student driver’s license
- Current information on cash, savings and checking account balances, non-retirement investments, and business or farm assets
- Federal Tax information for the appropriate tax year
- 25-26 FAFSA uses 2023 tax info
- Submit your FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/ or in the myStudentAid mobile app
- 25-26 FAFSA for fall 2025, spring 2026, and summer 2026
- Sign and Submit your FAFSA.
- If you are a dependent student, one of your parents must also sign your FAFSA with their own FSA ID. More info on dependency can be found here: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out/dependency
Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid
The Illinois RISE Act enables eligible undocumented students to apply for all types of state financial aid. The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid offers a pathway for these qualified students to apply for the MAP grant.
