Class A Behind the Wheel (BTW)

The Commercial Driver’s License Class A Behind the Wheel course is designed to teach the student the skills required to drive and back a tractor trailer vehicle and perform safe maneuvers to successfully remain safe while operating on public roadways. The CDL Class A Theory course must be completed within one year to be eligible for licensure.

Tuition & Fees

  • Tuition $2,834.00
  • DOT Physical & Drug Screen performed at an authorized location
  • CDL Permit Fee $50.00

Payment

  • Payments can be made by using credit card, cash, money order, personal check, grant voucher, or FACTS payment plan prior to the start of training.

Course Overview

  • Yard and Road: 160 hours covering pre-trip inspections, backing movements, and control and safe driving of the vehicle on the road

At the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to test at the Secretary of State Facility for your Class A CDL.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid license for your state of residency
  • Must be over 21 years old for interstate commerce
  • Must be 18 years old for intrastate (in state only)
  • Able to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to interact with law enforcement personnel and comply with road signs and rules
  • Pass a DOT physical and drug screen

Additional Information

  • Students can be licensed in Illinois or Indiana depending on residency
  • Two locations are available (Mattoon and Marshall)
