National Safety Council Professional Truck Driver Course
Lake Land College is proud to announce that we offer the National Safety Council’s Professional Truck Driver 5th edition course. Participants will acquire the knowledge to help them remain incident- and citation-free by focusing on collision prevention through hazard recognition and crash avoidance. Educating yourself, or your employees, about the importance of safe, responsible, driving can potentially decrease liability exposure, financial risks and the costs related to fleet insurance premiums including workers’ compensation claims, traffic violations and repair bills. The course features:
- A modularized format to allow flexibility to streamline or adjust course content and topic selection.
- Three or four hours of classroom instruction to accommodate corporate training requirements.
- Videos and animation segments to reinforce key concepts and collision prevention strategies.
- State-of-the-art multimedia presentation integrates course content, videos, animation, and classroom activities with real-life driver situations to improve and enhance learner experience.
- Testing strategies throughout the course measure driver progress and competency level.
Participants will learn:
- Defensive driving and collision prevention strategies — speed, proper following distances, lane changes and lane marking’s, passing and overtaking, correct scanning techniques and critical thinking.
- Handling challenging situations — head-on collisions, turn and intersection collisions, backing, distracted driving, and factors contributing to collisions.
- Pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections.
- Maneuvering safely through work zones, traffic and weather conditions.
- Hazard recognition and conditions beyond the driver’s control.
- Physical health and wellness of the professional driver — stress management, fatigue, vision, hearing, mobility, medication, and more.
