Honors Program
Honor Programs Benefits
Honors Students in the Lake Land College Honors Program have the opportunity to gain a variety of valuable benefits throughout their time as a student! To receive these benefits, you must be an active Honors student. This means taking at least two honors courses (or two contracts) or joining Phi Theta Kappa!
- May receive scholarship aid
- Will carry honors designation on their transcript for each honors course they successfully complete
- The completion of two honors courses will qualify for Associates Level Honors
- The completion of four honors courses will qualify for Full Level Honors
- Receive an invite to social activities and special Honors events such as the Honors Experience Luncheon
- May qualify for Honors Student of the Year nomination- receives Honors plaque and prize during Honors Experience Luncheon
- Receive Honors recognition- eligible to wear Honors regalia at the graduation ceremony (provided by the college)
Participation
One of the ways to participate in the Honors program is to enroll in an honors course. You can do this in one of the following ways:
Qualifications:
To join the Honors Program as an entering freshman, you must be
- Pursuing an associate degree or 1-year certificate at Lake Land College; and
- Graduate in the top 15 percent of your high school class; or
- Have an ACT composite score of 26 or higher/SAT total score of 1230 or higher § Please email ptk@lakelandcollege.edu with your class percentile or ACT/SAT score!

To join the Honors Program as a current Lake Land Student or transfer student, you must both:
- Have completed at least 12 hours of coursework toward an associate degree or 6 hours towards a certificate degree
- Have a GPA of 3.25 or above after the completion of these credit hours
To Remain Eligible/Graduate with Honors:
Honors students must complete the program requirements in order to graduate as an Honors student. Those requirements are:
- Maintain at least a 3.25 GPA
- Graduate from an Associate degree program or certificate degree program
- Complete two Honors courses for Associate Level Honors or four courses for Full Level Honors
- In order to receive cords for graduation, students must complete between two and four Honors level courses
Students actively enrolled in an honors course whose cumulative GPA fall below 3.25 will be placed on probation and will have one semester to raise their GPA to the minimum requirement. Students who do not meet these requirements will be removed from the Honors Program and will be unable to register for Honors courses.
