Student Activity Board sponsoring a marrow registry drive

Posted on August 15, 2017

The Lake Land College Student Activity Board is sponsoring a Marrow Registry Drive on Wednesday, August 30. Representatives from the Be The Match organization will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Laker Point of the Luther Student Center to talk with students, employees and community members who are interested in registering to be a stem-cell donor.

People who register to be a stem-cell donor have the opportunity to save someone’s life.  A peripheral blood stem-cell donation is a non-surgical procedure and is only slightly more involved than giving blood.  Most donors are back to their normal routine in one to two days.

According to Be The Match, 70 percent of patients who need a stem-cell transplant do not have a fully matched donor in their family and must rely on the generosity of a stranger.

Donors must be between the ages of 18-44.  Those who are older than 44 and want to be involved can encourage others to register as a potential donor.

For more information about being a donor, contact Jaclyn Considine at jconsidine@rrvbc.org or 815-961-2341.
