Career Day – Presenters

Career Day is an annual event held on the first Tuesday of October where nearly 1,200 high school juniors and seniors come to Lake Land’s campus to learn about a variety of careers and how to set themselves on a path to attain those careers. This year’s event will be held on October 1, 2024. High school students throughout the district have the opportunity to register for over 175 different sessions in a variety of fields. Sessions are either 20 or 50 minutes in length, allowing students to explore topics at a basic or in-depth level of the particular field.

Overview

High schools arrive in two groups. During their time on campus, each group’s students attend the Illinois Regional College Fair and participate in two hours’ worth of sessions. An hour could be filled with either a 50-minute session, as an indicated by “A”, or two 20-minute sessions, as indicated by “B” and “C” on their schedules. Sessions are held all over campus, while the College Fair is located in the Field House. Students should arrive on-campus with their schedules. If you encounter lost students, please help guide them to their next session or send them to the Field House where their individual schedules can be printed. For more information on group assignments and schedules, please visit the Schedule page.

Specific Session Times

1A – 9:15-10:05 2A – 10:15-11:05 3A – 11:15-12:05
1B – 9:15-9:35 2B – 10:15-10:35 3B – 11:15-11:35
1C – 9:45-10:05 2C – 10:45-11:05 3C – 11:45-12:05

Session Codes

Presenters are given a session code for each session they present via email. This is a unique word given to each presenter, and it is intended to be verbally given to students during the session. Most high schools ask the students to write down this code on their schedule and hand back in at the end of the day as proof of attendance.

Volunteering

A combination of Lake Land College faculty and staff as well as community members are utilized to speak to students about various professions and career opportunities during this event. We welcome the opportunity to increase the number of sessions we offer during this event as well as presenters. Whether you are a community member, professional in your field, or organization wishing to share on specific aspects of that career, we welcome your participation! If you wish to volunteer for this event as an outside presenter, please contact Internship & Employment Coordinator Stephanie Anderson at 217-234-5457 or sfreeman41846@lakelandcollege.edu for more information.
