Preparing for Academic Advisement

CURRENT DEGREE/CERTIFICATE SEEKING STUDENTS

  • Review your academic program.
  • Run your degree audit (also called Progress) in the HUB.
  • Develop a list of potential courses and questions for your advisor.
  • Connect with your academic advisor each semester to be eligible to register. We encourage students to schedule an in-person meeting for their initial advising appointment with their assigned academic advisor and complete a plan to graduation. This faculty member will advise you through to graduation, unless you change your major.

NEW STUDENTS (no college credit beyond high school)

  • Consider your career goals and major. Visit the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
  • Decide if you want to transfer to a university after Lake Land College or go directly into the workforce.
  • Review your academic program.
  • Develop a list of advising questions.
  • Complete online orientation. Information is mailed to you in March for summer and fall start students and October for spring start students.
  • Attend your Registration Day where you will meet with a counselor. You will have the opportunity to schedule this day at the end of online orientation.
  • Transfer students should also connect with an advisor at their next institution to ensure a smooth transfer experience. Share any relevant information with your academic advisor.

STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS COLLEGE CREDIT WHO ARE SEEKING A DEGREE/CERTIFICATE

  • Develop a list of potential courses and questions for your advisor.
