Welcome Week
Welcome back to campus, Lakers! To celebrate, we will be hosting various games, giveaways, tours, and workshops at Welcome Week to help students feel confident going into the new semester. Aligning with book pickup, Welcome Week will run from Tuesday, August 18 – Friday, August 21 as well as Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25. This year’s theme will be centered around “2016.” We will celebrate the start of the semester with Pokémon Go, fidget spinners, Snapchat filters, and more!
At Welcome Week, students can opt to attend a technology workshop, “How to College.” Here, students will get the chance to learn about the various platforms they will use, like the Hub, Canvas, and Laker Mail. To register to attend “How to College,” students can use the following links:

Welcome Days – August 26 & 27
To finish off Welcome Week, students will get the chance to celebrate all together at Welcome Day on Wednesday, August 26 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Field House on campus.
Then, continue the celebration into Thursday for Welcome Day at the Effingham Technology Center from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join us for an inspiring session with community advocate, entrepreneur, and Lake Land College alumnus Tyrone J. Dennis. After graduating in 1999 as a student-athlete, Tyrone played professional basketball, served for 16 years as a decorated Atlanta Police Detective and certified gang expert, and founded the award-winning Clippers & Cops community program. Now the Director of School Safety & Security for the Rockwood School District, Tyrone returns to campus to share his powerful story of resilience, growth, and community impact.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is a student-elected governing board representing the student body of Lake Land College. Completed applications are due September 21 at 4 p.m. via the Laker Hub. Elections are held online through the Laker Hub on September 23 and 24. All registered students are encouraged to vote. Let your voice be heard!
