Celebrations & Recognitions

June: LGBTQIA+ PRIDE Month!

This is a time to recognize the history and continued effort to raise awareness and inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride Month as we know it today can have different meanings for different people. For some it is a remembrance, for others it is a celebration, and for still more people it is a call to action.

While great strides have been taken towards equitable and inclusive experiences for the LGBTQIA+ community, many of these individuals are still denied basic human rights, are harassed, physically assaulted, and some are even murdered simply for living as their authentic selves.

June 19th: JUNETEENTH

Also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day and Emancipation Day, Juneteenth is celebrated each year as a day to honor the culture, lives and accomplishments of the Black community on the day the last remaining enslaved Black Americans were notified of their Freedom. Join in on the Coles County events listed here to learn more about this important holiday!
