Broadcasting Club Holds Campus Food Drive
Published on December 11, 2025
The Lake Land College Broadcasting Club recently held its 19th annual campus-wide food drive to support the Lake Land College food pantry.
Throughout the month of November, the club accepted non-perishable food donations, with priority items including canned foods, pastas, spices and more. The club members made donation boxes and stationed them across campus for Lake Land students, staff and community members to drop off their donations. In total, the club collected 1,179 food items during this year’s initiative.
“Our students put a lot of effort into planning this project every year, and it’s always great to see that effort met with such overwhelming generosity from our community,” said Greg Powers, Speech Communication/Broadcasting Instructor/Director of Broadcast Operations. “We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined us in our mission and contributed to such a successful food drive.”
All donations were given to Lake Land’s on-campus Laker Food Pantry, helping to keep the pantry stocked during the upcoming holiday season and combat food insecurity for Lake Land students and their families. Located in the Luther Student Center, the Laker Food Pantry operates year-round, with free food available to students for either pickup or delivery.
The Laker Food Pantry accepts food and financial donations year-round. Food donations can be brought to the Student Wellness Center located in the Luther Student Center. Financial contributions can be made online by visiting the Lake Land College Foundation’s secure giving website at LakeLandCollege.edu/online-giving/ and selecting “Student Food Bank” from the drop-down list. In-person donations can also be made by dropping off a check or cash at the Foundation & Alumni Center office. Checks should be made payable to the Lake Land College Foundation with “Student Food Pantry” on the memo line.
With the Broadcasting Club’s food drive, Lake Land College also joined many other Illinois community colleges for the Illinois Community College Board’s (ICCB) statewide “Feed the Need” campaign. A new annual tradition started in 2024, the “Feed the Need” campaign encourages each of the 48 ICCB member colleges to collect food donations throughout the month of November to support local food banks. In the campaign’s inaugural year, more than 91,000 food items were donated throughout Illinois as a part of this initiative.
“It’s worked out very well these last couple of years to combine our annual food drive with this incredible statewide effort by the ICCB,” Powers added. “We hope all the donations collected through this initiative make a massive impact for students and community members, both here on our campus and throughout the entire state.”
