The Lake Land College Board of Trustees appointed Heather Nohren as the Vice President for Student Services during the regular board meeting on Monday, August 18.
As the Vice President for Student Services, Nohren will serve as the chief student services officer, providing innovative leadership and strategic oversight for all student services operations at Lake Land College, which consist of Recruitment and Enrollment, Admissions, Career Services, Counseling and Student Conduct, Financial Aid and Veterans Services, Athletics, Marketing and Public Relations, Student Life and TRIO programs. Nohren will also serve as a chief advisor to the President in the formation of policies that foster collaboration among faculty, staff, students and communities and sustain a student-centered vision for the College.
Nohren holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in College Student Affairs from Eastern Illinois University. She has more than 20 years of experience working at Lake Land College, most recently serving as the Chair of Counseling and Student Conduct. In this role, Nohren oversaw the College’s academic counseling and student accommodations departments, providing strategic leadership, allocating resources, supporting key academic support programs, supporting enrollment management and initiatives, facilitating university transfer agreements and establishing mental health initiatives. Nohren also brings years of prior experience as an academic counselor and served as an adjunct faculty member in social sciences.

Nohren has further demonstrated her leadership at Lake Land College by serving above and beyond her role as the Chair of Counseling and Student Conduct. She has served as the president of the College’s Faculty Association, the chair of the Academic Programs and Course Offerings Task Force, chair of the Guided Pathways Onboarding Task Force, team lead of the Navigate Committee, co-lead of the Enrollment Initiatives Team and chair of the Behavioral Intervention and Violence Prevention Team in addition to her involvement in many other College committees, including the Curriculum Committee, the Guided Pathways and Enrollment Management Team, the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Review Board, the Student Conduct Review Board and the Competency-Based Education Task Force, among others.
Nohren has received two nominations throughout her career for the Lake Land College Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year Award and has twice been recognized as a nominee for the Shine Award, Lake Land’s most prestigious staff and faculty award.
Beyond her service at Lake Land College, Nohren is an active member of the National Orientation Director’s Association, the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment (NABITA), the Association of Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA) and the Association for Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). She is a graduate of the Illinois Chair Academy leadership program and has presented at the National Orientation Directors Association’s national conference, where her work was recognized with a best practice endorsement.
Nohren is also active in her community. She was member of Sole Fast Shelbyville Running Club for many years, is a community and parent volunteer for Shelbyville track and cross country meets, was a former board member for the Shelbyville Girls Softball Association and recently co-led fundraising efforts for Shelbyville High School All American Cheerleaders.
Nohren lives in Shelbyville with her husband Tad and their daughters, Ellie, Katie and Natalie.
