Posted on May 6, 2024

Two Lake Land College Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honors students were recognized at a banquet in Springfield for their inclusion on the All-Illinois Community College Academic Team.

Natashia Carter, Mattoon, was one of the two transfer student nominees recognized at the banquet. She most recently served as president of the PTK Alpha Theta Psi chapter and was honored with the Lake Land College Non-traditional Student of the Year Award in 2023. After graduating from Lake Land College in May 2024, Carter plans to attend Eastern Illinois University to complete a bachelor’s degree in Human Services.

Brianna Sexton, Charleston, was also a transfer student nominee. She most recently served as the Secretary of Alpha Theta Psi before graduating with an associate degree in Psychology in May 2024. She plans to continue her studies at Eastern Illinois University to earn minors in both 2-D Studio Art and Kinesiology before pursuing a career in art therapy and activity direction for inpatient facilities.

“Tashia and Brianna are both exemplary students and tremendous representatives of our College,” said Tessa Wiles, Director of Dual Credit and Honors Experience. “I can’t think of any students more deserving of this incredible honor.”
