Is online learning for me?
Online classes can offer you flexibility to work toward your goals. Often, online courses are a great solution to balance family life, work and school. Online courses require self-discipline, good time management skills, and the ability to learn independently.
Students can complete the free OASIS assessment offered by Illinois Community Colleges Online (ILCCO). This assessment consists of a series of surveys that will help students determine if online learning is right for them.
Steps to Complete the OASIS Assessment
- Go to Online Assessment System for Internet Students
- Click the Study Skills button.
- Select Lake Land College as your institution.
- Fill in your name and email address.
- Complete the survey. As you answer the questions you will receive immediate feedback based on your answers.
- After you have finished the survey you will see the questions with your answers. At the top of page is a key you can use to review your answers and feedback. A copy of survey with your answers will be sent to your email address. Keep the email in case your instructors want you to use the scores or your responses in an assignment. To review your scores, click the link in the email and review the answer key it provides.
How do I register for online courses?
After applying online, students can contact Counseling Services at 217-234-5232 or counsel@lakelandcollege.edu for registration information.
Are campus visits required for online courses?
Some online courses may require on-site proctoring for some exams in the proctoring lab located in the Student Success Center. Additional proctoring sites are available at the Effingham Technology Center (ETC) and Eastern Region Center in Marshall. Students can also make arrangements at alternative proctoring sites with qualified proctors. For more details on proctoring, please visit the Student Success Center page.
How do I get started with online courses?
Lake Land College uses Canvas which is a cloud-based software program that can be accessed from a web browser. In Canvas, instructors will share course materials, syllabi, lessons, and discussions. Login into the Laker Hub to access Canvas. using your Laker HUB ID and password. View the semester checklist for students to prepare for online courses.
How do I get help with online courses?
Contact IT Help Desk at 217-234-5261 or helpdesk@lakelandcollege.edu with any questions or difficulties you may have regarding Canvas. IT Help Desk is located on the lower level of the Learning Resource Center.

How do I get my textbooks for online courses?
Lake Land College offers textbook rental which equates to additional savings to our students. The College Bookstore offers a delivery service, allowing online students to take advantage of the rental system. Visit the Lake Land College Bookstore webpage to learn more.
