WLKL Radio & TV Broadcasting

In response to COVID-19, WLKL-FM, 89.9 The Max Alternative, will remain on-air at 89.9 FM and 899themax.com. As you may be aware, WLKL is staffed mainly by students enrolled in Broadcast Communication courses at Lake Land College. Due to safety concerns during this COVID-19 pandemic, access to campus is restricted to employees only and all courses have transitioned online. Thus, the many student announcers you typically hear on WLKL will not be able to fulfill those roles until the campus opens again for student attendance. That date has yet to be set and is fluid at this time.

WLKL-FM will continue to broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with our Alternative Rock music format. Our musical genre of 70s from 7-8 a.m. weekdays will continue, as will our 80s throwback from 5-6 p.m. each weekday. The regularly scheduled WLKL news and sports programming will be cancelled; however, we will do our best to keep you up to date on campus announcements on-air and on our Facebook page.

Additionally, please note the Broadcast Communication Open House scheduled for March 27th has been cancelled. Furthermore, the WLKL 45th Anniversary celebration set for April 24th has been postponed.

On behalf of the students and staff at WLKL, thank you for your patience during these difficult times. Should you have questions about the operation of WLKL, please email Greg Powers, Station Manager, at gpowers@lakelandcollege.edu.

You can now listen live to 89.9 The Max Alternative anywhere in the world online! You can also give us a call or send us an email to make a request!
