Penalties
All rented items must be returned to the College by the day the semester closes, which is the day following the last day of finals. Beginning the following day, students will be charged new retail price of unreturned rentals. Textbook return deadlines are published on the Laker Calendar and are shown on the student booklist.
After the period mentioned above, any textbooks that have not been returned to the Bookstore will become the property of the students and the total cost for those books will be added to the student’s bill. At that time, books can no longer be returned to the Bookstore and any future financial aid, scholarships, or student loans may be held or applied against these charges.
Students with late textbook charges may be blocked from receiving transcripts and may not be able to register for any classes until the charges are paid.
Students who have been charged for unreturned textbooks and blocked but have a documentable reason for the unreturned books may petition to have the charges removed. Students should obtain documentation showing the reasoning with dates and follow these steps:
- Complete the Late Textbook Waiver.
- TIP: Be descriptive and provide the reason the deadline to return the textbooks was missed; include dates and documentation that will support the reason stated on the form. Please do not simply state the deadline was unknown or forgotten. Forms submitted without supporting documentation will not be reviewed.
- Return the completed form to the Bookstore either in person or via email at bookstore@lakelandcollege.edu; don’t forget to include supporting documents.
- The Bookstore will deliver the form to the Refund Review Committee.
- The student will be contact by the Refund Review Committee with the decision of the board within five working days.
- Approved complaint forms will be subject to the return of the textbooks, unless otherwise stated.
