Passwords at Lake Land College
At Lake Land College, we use passwords to help protect our computing systems. These systems include the Hub, Canvas, Navigate, e-mail, and virtual machines.
Password Security Best Practices
Passwords represent a key part of security. Ensure yours are long, unique, and conform to your organization’s policies. You may also consider using passphrases — easy-to-remember sentences that are hard for others to guess, such as an obscure quote from your favorite book or movie.
- Create a strong password for your accounts by using letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Don’t use your name or any part of your name.
- Avoid dictionary words or common passphrases.
- Make your password no shorter than nine characters.
- Don’t reuse old passwords, or share passwords with other accounts.
- Don’t leave passwords out and accessible. Don’t put it on a sticky on your monitor, or hide it under your keyboard. Use a password manager to secure your passwords.
- Change your password if there is any suspicion that it could be compromised.
- Do not share your password with anyone!
- Lake Land College ISS team will NEVER ask you for your password!
