The Lake Land College Shooting Sports team was recently named the National Runner-Up Team at the USA College Clay Target League National Championship.
Held Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1 in Bunker Hill, Illinois, the 2026 USA College Clay Target League National Championship drew 189 athletes from 25 colleges and universities across the country to compete for the national title.
Competing among the top Shooting Sports squads in the nation, the Lake Land College Lakers finished the competition tied with New York’s Alfred State College for the top overall team score of 962/1,000. Alfred State ultimately held the top individual score tiebreaker to be named the national champions, and the Lakers took home the National Runner-Up Team trophy. The 2026 Championship marks the third consecutive year the Lakers have received the National Runner-Up honor.
Individually, Lake Land College sophomore Collin Hewing, Mode, placed third in a close contest for the High Overall Individual Title, hitting 198 of 200 targets to finish as the third-highest scoring student in the entire competition.
“I am incredibly proud of our team for securing our third National Runner-Up trophy in just four years since our Shooting Sports program was established,” Shooting Sports Head Coach Josh Fulk said. “Our athletes continue to represent Lake Land College with excellence on the national stage and prove that we hold one of the premiere Shooting Sports teams in the country.”
